Tomorrow we head to London where we’ll await our 18 hours one-way flight to Australia. We still haven’t packed our backpacks. We have 36ltr bags a 5kg limit and no checked luggage… Luckily enough, I created a loose packing guide weeks (honestly; months) ago to give us a rough idea on what we’d like to take… let’s see how that compares to what we’re actually taking!!

Leah –

  • 1 x leggings (Black)
  • 2 x shorts (Denim and Cotton – plain)
  • 4 x tops… +1.
  • 1 x dress…. +1.
  • 1 x Bikini
  • 5 x Pants
  • 3 x Socks… +3.
  • 1 x wired bra
  • 1 x jumper
  • 1 x bandeau bra or Bralette
  • 1 x Kashmina/Blanket wrap

Plus – 1 x short skirt.

Dec –

  • 1 x Jeans
  • 3 2 x shorts
  • 5 4 x tops
  • 6 4 x boxers
  • 4 x socks
  • 1 x jumper
  • Jacket

As you can see – I’m taking way more clothes than Dec. We had differing opinions, I like to take my things ready whereas Dec would rather buy anything he needs there and travel light. We’ll see whose plan works best after being there a week haha.

Leah –

  • 1 x flip-flops
  • 1 x trainers
  • 1 x Sandals (ankle strap)

Dec –

  • 1 x Trainers
  • 1 x flip-flops

We’re both wearing our heaviest shoes to keep down weight – we’ll probably be a little bit over anyway but the more bulk you can shed the better!

  • 2 x towels
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Bobbles
  • Hair clips
  • 1 x Bandana/Scarf ribbon
  • 1 x shampoo
  • 1 x body wash
  • 1 x conditioner
  • Wipes

Instead of taking hair product we’re taking empty travel bottles to fill whilst there. Travel bottles are less likely to leak whilst in your bag, so we split them down instead of carrying one big bottle. It also means we won’t have to worry about the 100ml rule if we decide to hop on a last-minute fight whilst we’re there.

  • Laptop + Charger
  • Phone + Socket + charging wires (x 3 2)
  • GoPro :
    • Charging port
    • 4 x GoPro batteries
    • GoPro bag
    • Selfie stick
    • Chest harness
    • Floaty
    • GoPro attachment bolts x 7 4
    • Waterproof case
    • Lens Caps
    • 2x Sticky Tabs and attachment
    • Micro memory card x 2
    • Wrist harness
    • Head harness
  • Sony Camera –
    •     Charging cable
    •     Memory card x 2
  • 2 1 x Adapter plugs
  • 2 x Headphones
  • Ipad
  • iPod

Tech is definitely going to be our main weight issue, but looking at it all there wasn’t anything we could go without – so we’re risking it and taking it all! The 5kg limit is looking even more unrealistic now.

  • Padlocks
  • A bag for dirty washing
  • A day bag
  • Clear ‘make up’ packing bags (for loose tech stuff)
  • 1 x Air Pillow (buying one at the airport)
  • 2 1 x Sunglasses (Lost mine…)
  • 1 x torch
  • Earplugs

We’re about 1 or 2kg over our limit each, so we’re preparing ourselves for the reality that we’re probably going to end up checking in a bag. If that happens we’ll move all our clothes into one bag and save the tech from the bumpy ride under the plane. I don’t think it’s hit us yet that this time on Tuesday we’ll be in China, halfway to our final destination! If you want to see how we’re getting on, follow us on Instagram!

We hope our basic packing guide has been helpful, let us know in the comments what you would take on top of this – or even what you’d ditch!!

Like it… pin it!!!
